WCRIS is working with the Governor’s office and the Department of Public Instruction on applying to the federal government for Emergency Aid to Nonpublic Schools (EANS) funds just made available by Congress.

All signs now point to the Governor applying for the funds. However, we can’t move forward until his office confirms that the paperwork has been completed. Here’s what has to occur for our schools to access the $77.4 million in EANS dollars designated for Wisconsin:

  1. Gov. Evers has to apply for the funds from the feds by Feb. 8 (see our letter to the Governor here);
  2. The state has to designate the government agency that schools will place orders through (WCRIS is lobbying for CESAs to be selected);
  3. The agency has to identify vendors, stores, how schools will make purchases they can reimburse (we’ll let you know as soon as this is decided);
  4. DPI has to develop a participation form for our schools, which is required by law (WCRIS is already working with DPI on this).

See our Current Events e-letter from Jan 14 for complete EANS details. Watch future editions for updates. If you aren’t sure if you missed something, see the front page of the WCRIS website, which is updated daily.
