Religious private schools are automatically exempt from Title IX if there is a conflict between Title IX and a school’s religious beliefs, according to a clarification released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday, August 12.

The clarification was released in response to a lawsuit filed by a Florida religious school that relies on the National School Lunch Program to feed its students.

WCRIS was also prepared to sue the USDA and worked with the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to push for the clarification letter.
