Supply chain challenges are having an impact on school meal programs.

Some schools are experiencing challenges in purchasing and obtaining food. Some have received little notice that ordered food products will not be provided as planned. As a result, these schools have had to find other products.

The USDA reached out to WCRIS to report it is committed to doing everything in its power, including working across the federal government, to help ease the pressures on our food supply chain and overcome challenges in the food and agriculture sector. Through a wide spectrum of new flexibilities, resources, and hands-on support, USDA is responding to obstacles schools are facing.

In addition, the Biden Administration will be providing $1 billion for schools to purchase food for their meal programs. Nonprofit private schools are eligible for the Supply Chain Assistance funds. Wisconsin is slated to get $25.6 million.
