Results from the DPI’s Youth Behavior Risk Survey, given every two years to Wisconsin high school students, were released yesterday. The results are unsettling:

  • More than one in two students reported anxiety;
  • One in three students reported depression; and
  • One in five students reported self-harming behaviors.

These statistics are consistent with the increasing trend of negative mental health outcomes for students and reminds us that students of all ages – at all schools – need help.

While public schools will likely receive funds to address mental health in the 2023-25 state budget, private schools should not be forgotten.

WCRIS’ proposed Health and Safety Grant Program aims to help private schools address their students’ needs in their own way, according to their unique mission and values, with no secular, bureaucratic strings attached.

Please send a message to your legislators urging them to support our plan by tomorrow, May 26.

Our children are hurting. Take action today to help over 120,000 Wisconsin private school students get the help they need in a way that matches their schools’ beliefs and values.
