The Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of School Safety announced the second round of school safety grants that builds off of the safety baseline of the first round grants. The new funding opportunity uses the left over funds from the previous round.

Private schools can apply for the new grant round, even if they did not apply for the first round of grants. Applicants should know that the funding formula is different and is based on a per-pupil amount. Private schools that did not participate in the first round and want to apply, have to meet the prerequisites of the first round and new prerequisites and training requirements for the second round of grants.

The new round has introduced these new prerequisites and training requirements:

  1. Ten percent of all full-time teachers at the school must attend a 12-hour Adolescent Mental Health training course approved by the DOJ by August 31, 2020.
  2. Schools must establish a School Safety Intervention Team following DOJ guidelines, by August 31, 2020.

The current timeline for the new round is:

August 13: The Intent to Apply is due.
August 15: The application opens.
August 31: Applications are due.
October 2018: Grants are awarded

Schools that are interested in applying must fill out an “intent to apply” form here, due August 13.
