Students can access painless, preventative dental care at school through Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile (SAS) at no cost to families or schools. Over 80% of children’s cavities can be prevented by dental sealant, according to the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin (Alliance).

SAS sends dental professionals to your school to “seal smiles” by applying sealant to students’ teeth using mobile dental equipment, with little disruption to the school day. Parents do not have to be present, but must fill out a consent form before the student can receive care. Insurance is not required.

The program is funded by the state which has awarded grants to local licensed dental providers to administer the program at schools. See the list of eligible providers here and contact them to host SAS at your school. In 2019, the program served 812 schools and placed almost 79,000 sealants on Wisconsin’s children.

SAS is conducted by the Alliance, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Delta Dental of Wisconsin. Learn more.
