Every year, by January 1, schools are required to submit their school safety information to the Department of Justice’s Office of School Safety (OSS). You can learn more about what is required on page 67 of the 2020-21 WCRIS Legal Handbook. This requirement is often referred to as 2017 Act 143.

This year, schools will also need to have their plans reviewed and approved by the governing body of the private school. This requirement applies every three years.

This means schools should get their governing body to review and approve the plan ahead of the January 1 deadline and the holidays. Make sure you document the plan approval in the official minutes or notes of the governing body’s meeting
