Blue Ribbon Commission Holds Hearing in Oshkosh on School Finance.

Your private school voice is needed at a hearing of the Wisconsin Legislature’s Blue Ribbon Commission on School Finance April 23 in Oshkosh. The Commission will use the input to make recommendations to the Legislature on school funding. The Commission’s work could find its way into the 2019-2021 state budget. Planning for the budget will begin this Fall.

Commission topics include funding for school transportation, the Wisconsin Parental Choice Programs, and other important issues. Public school advocates will be there to make their case. Often, they criticize aid to private school students via busing, vouchers, and various grant programs that have been expanded in recent years to include private school students.

WCRIS members, Bill Hughes of Seton Catholic Schools (throughout Milwaukee County) and Lori Saquer of Messmer Catholic Schools, (Milwaukee), are on the Commission but need support. WCRIS urges its members to attend and speak up for private and independent schools.

When you attend the hearing, please remember to sign in. When you testify, please keep your comments positive. Bring a written copy of your testimony and leave it with the committee clerk. There will be legislative aides available with name tags who can direct you.

The April 23 hearing is at 2 p.m. and will be located at:
