Question: Can choice schools cover internet costs for students receiving virtual instruction?

Answer: WCRIS learned some choice schools have this question during our regular meetings with the DPI.

The department plans to officially communicate this information for the 2024-25 school year, but for now, the department shared with WCRIS that:

  • Schools can reimburse families enrolled in grades 4K-12 receiving virtual instruction for the actual cost of internet. That cost could be an eligible education expense;
  • Schools can also pay the cost directly, which could be an eligible education expense;
  • Schools cannot provide a stipend to families for internet costs. This would not be an eligible education expense.

Please stay tuned for official guidance from the DPI for next school year.
