Helping with PDPs a Key

Wisconsin has a looming teacher shortage, with estimates showing that nearly 30 percent fewer college students are entering teacher preparation programs.

Private schools that support teachers with their Professional Development Plans (PDPs) will have an edge when it comes to recruitment and retention. With the power of WCRIS’ statewide network of private school mission-driven teachers, we can work together to keep teachers in our schools.

Since 2004, teachers have been licensed through a PDP.  As the number of teachers being licensed though a PDP has grown, changes have been made to the process that require collaboration and professional training to support the system and those entering the education profession.

We are in great need of teachers and administrators to serve as PDP reviewers for WCRIS member schools. Our goal is to begin a master list of teacher/administrator/IHE approved PDP reviewers specifically for religious and independent schools around the state.

The first step is to have as many educators as possible approved to serve in that role.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. If you were trained as a reviewer and have reviewed a PDP in the last year:

Educators who were previously trained to be a PDP team member have a valid PDP certification that will expire June 30, 2016.  To renew the certification for another five years, an online refresher course is required.  Click here to Get Started.

2. If you were trained as a reviewer but are not currently on the DPI list of reviewers or have never been trained to be a reviewer.  (Note: You must hold a valid professional educator license to become a reviewer.)

Training for new PDP Team members occurs in a blended online format. DPI is partnering with CESAs and large school districts to provide training sessions.  Participants must complete online material in the two weeks preceding the one half-day face-to-face meeting.

To register, please email the contact person for the training you want to take.  There is no fee for these workshops. http://dpi.wi.gov/tepdl/pdp/team/information

PDP Verification Goes Online

As of September 1, 2012, all educators are required to submit their PDP Verification data to DPI via an electronic service provider (e.g. QEI, WECAN-PDP, WIPDP). The PDP may be created outside the electronic PDP system. The two formats used by WCRIS members are WECAN and QEI.  It is important that you create an account in both systems.  See the links below.

Thank you for your willingness to assist other educators in growing as professionals and most importantly providing the highest quality education for our students.
