Gov. Tony Evers signed into law a proposal requiring increased privacy for immunization-related correspondence a school may send via U.S. mail. Private schools are included in the new law, which is effective immediately.

Assembly Bill 132 (AB 132) was signed into law on November 5 as 2021 Act 81.

The new law requires simply that: any private K-8 school, child care center or nursery school that sends a piece of mail containing information that could disclose another person’s immunization status, including immunization reminders, sent by US mail shall ensure that any information that could disclose or otherwise allow someone to infer the status is enclosed and sealed within a piece of mail and no such immunization information is visible on the outside of the piece of mail.

Please review your school’s parent notification process for school-required vaccinations and adjust your systems accordingly. This requirement is for all vaccines; not just COVID.
