Milwaukee Public Schools pulls busing for private school students, as the first day of school approaches.

In an August 24 letter, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) notified private schools that they would not receive transportation services nor reimbursement for parent contracts.

The notice came just as many private schools in MPS are starting the school year in person, and rely on busing to deliver the children to classes. Without transportation, students can not get to school.

MPS’s decision does not meet the state school transportation law, which requires that transportation for private school students be provided, even if the public district is not in session.

The DPI has been notified of this situation, and WCRIS is working with its schools and allies in Milwaukee to restore busing so the kids can get safely to their school buildings.
