Registering for the Special Needs Scholarship Program

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has posted the Intent to Participate Form for the new Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP). The form can be found here.

Private schools interested in participating in the SNSP must complete this form by June 1, 2016. It must be completed and signed by the head of your school’s governing board.

The Intent to Participate Form for the SNSP includes a “special education profile.” This is very important for your school as it will define to applicants what special education services your school can provide.

WCRIS advises your profile be as specific as possible. Be sure to include services you provide, as well as any services you do not provide.

Additionally, all participating private schools must provide applicants with a comparison document that details the differences in rights between a public school versus a private school for children with disabilities. The DPI has created this document which you can use to facilitate this requirement. The document can be found here.

Lastly, it is important to note that SNSP schools must comply with all of the health and safety laws and codes that apply to public schools, including those related to appropriate use of seclusion and restraint. More information about seclusion and restraint can be found here.
