A January 28 letter to Chief State School Officers from the U.S. Department of Education says when it comes to formula grants (Title I and Title II) states and school districts “will continue to operate in the 2016-2017 school year under the plans, procedures, and requirements that are in place for the 2015-2016 school year.”

A copy of the letter was shared with WCRIS by The Council for American Private Education (CAPE), which represents WCRIS schools in Washington, D.C. on federal issues.

The Title programs are part of the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law by President Obama on December 10, 2015 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.

In the letter, the DOE said its approach is aimed at making an orderly transition from the old law to the new law.
