Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP) Deadline June 1, 2017

Surety Bond  If a school indicated on its Intent to Participate (ITP) that it expected to receive $50,000 or more in SNSP scholarships for the 2017-18 school year, then the school is required to  provide the department with either financial information or a surety bond. Financial information must be submitted to DPI by June 1 .  If a school opted to not submit the financial information to the department or submitted financial information that was  determined to not be sufficient, the school must submit a surety bond to the department by June 1, 2017 and it should cover the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018.  The surety bond must be equal to 25% of the total amount of SNSP scholarships expected to be received by the school based on the 2017-18 ITP.  The surety bond that must be used is available on the SNSP School Submitted Reports webpage.  The original surety bond, with original signatures and notary stamp needs to be mailed to the department.

Accreditation Letter  All SNSP schools must submit an accreditation letter by August 1, 2017.  the Accreditation letter can be emailed from the accrediting organization to : snsp@dpi.wi.gov or mailed to the department.  Information about the accreditation letter requirements can be found in the Accreditation Bulletin available on the SNSP Program Bulletins webpage.

Certificate of Occupancy  If a SNSP school moves to a new location or opens a new facility, then the school must provide a new certificate of occupancy, or letter to the DPI, prior to the students being in a new location.

Criminal Background Checks  Wisconsin law requires all SNSP schools to conduct a criminal background check prior to employing any individual at the school and every five (5) years thereafter.  Criminal background checks must be completed for all employees, including contracted individuals.  Schools that are new to the SNSP must conduct criminal background checks on all employees prior to the start of the first day of school that the school participates in the SNSP.  Information about the background check requirements can be found in the Criminal Background Checks Bulletin available on the SNSP Program Bulletins webpage.

Department Mailing Address.  Documents that are mailed via the United States Postal Service (USPS) should be addressed to: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Attn: Special Needs Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 7841, Madison, WI 53707-7841.  Please note that mail sent via USPS can take up to two weeks to be received by the department, so please plan accordingly.
