WCRIS has been conferring with the DPI regarding new documentation of training requirements for mandatory reporting in choice schools. After soliciting and obtaining WCRIS’ input, the DPI told WCRIS earlier today that it plans to release updated guidance soon.

The guidance requires your school to document its training for all staff. Also, schools must use the DPI-provided training materials.

As a reminder, according to state law, all school employees must be trained about mandatory reporting requirements within the first six months after hire and at least every five years thereafter. See page 56 of your WCRIS Legal Handbook.

The choice program requires compliance with all state health and safety requirements. However, the DPI acknowledged that the choice audits are not designed to measure compliance with the mandatory reporting provision.

Schools can be held liable if there is an abuse investigation, and it’s discovered that the school did not train its staff, as the law requires. Hence, the requirement for documentation.
