Schools received a memo last week (9/28) from the DPI telling them to update their data collection to help advance digital equity. It involved collecting seven additional data points.

Choice principals questioned the request: It was optional last year. Are these relatively new data collection questions a requirement? What if a school can’t get parents to give up the information? If I don’t or can’t collect the information, what happens to my school’s participation in choice?

WCRIS sought clarification immediately after principals brought this to our attention. The DPI’s email can be found here.

In response to our inquiries, the DPI confirmed in writing to WCRIS (9/29) that the digital equity data collection remains optional.

The DPI’s email was directed to schools “that are opting to collect and report the data and those that may be interested in doing so in the future,” DPI officials said.
