WCRIS is the state affiliate for the Council for American Private Education (CAPE), who advocates for private schools in DC. The following is a summary of what is happening in DC from CAPE’s monthly newsletter.

ESSER Funds

The U.S. Department of Education (USED) will be issuing rules on how the equitable services are calculated for private schools.

This action comes after a dispute between the USED and the Council of Chief State School Officers, who challenged the Department’s interpretation of the law in its May guidance.

Proposed Relief Bill Would Exclude Private Schools

The U.S House of Representatives passed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act which would provide another round of economic relief. Unfortunately, private schools were not included.

But, thankfully, CAPE reports that the Senate will not take up the proposal. It may introduce a different round of relief.
