Before the congressional Christmas recess, the highly debated Build Back Better (BBB) COVID relief plan failed to move in the US senate.

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia (D) broke ranks and announced that he would not be backing the BBB. His announcement now makes the future of the bill uncertain.

CAPE says the delay provides time to reword some of the bill’s provisions around child care.

As you may remember, the child care provisions would greatly hinder the mission and values of religious daycares. The provisions would effectively eliminate religious daycare participation.

Although there are not enough votes to move the bill forward in the Senate, the bill’s supporters are planning to take it up in the upcoming session.
