School safety officials note that spring can be a sensitive time for potential school safety incidents.
Schools always need to be prepared. You can do that without raising alarm or panic by:
- Reviewing your school safety plan with staff and assuring families you have done so;
- Connecting with local law enforcement and/or inviting them for a walk-through of your school;
- Reminding students, families and staff about the Speak Up, Speak Out tip line;
- Sharing with parents this handout with tips on how to talk about violence with children.
