School safety officials note that spring can be a sensitive time for potential school safety incidents.

Schools always need to be prepared. You can do that without raising alarm or panic by:

  1. Reviewing your school safety plan with staff and assuring families you have done so;
  2. Connecting with local law enforcement and/or inviting them for a walk-through of your school;
  3. Reminding students, families and staff about the Speak Up, Speak Out tip line;
  4. Sharing with parents this handout with tips on how to talk about violence with children.

WCRIS is here to help. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns dealing with news media or law enforcement. We have extensive experience working with our schools and the Wisconsin Department of Justice on school safety matters.
