The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is conducting its 2019-20 Private School Survey and WCRIS is urging you to participate, with encouragement from the Office of Non-Public Education located in the US Department of Education.

Since 2002, the survey has been done biennially after an act of Congress authorized the collection of public and private school facts to inform the public and decision-makers about the condition of education in the United States.

This data collection is the nation’s primary source of statistical information about the current educational landscape. It is used by education reform advocates who are working for equity and fairness for private school children.

For example, previous surveys have documented that approximately 25 percent of all elementary and secondary schools are private institutions. And, these schools enroll 10 percent of the nation’s school children and employ 13 percent of the nation’s teachers.

The US Census Bureau conducts the survey for the NCES and will contact your school via e-mail and US mail in the coming weeks. They may even call. They will not be afraid to help you verify their authenticity. And, they will never ask for your social security number or a credit card number.

Please take the time to complete the survey. The data is very useful to our nation. Both WCRIS and CAPE use it as we advocate for private schools at the State Capitol in Madison and with Congress in Washington, D.C.
