Absolute Sobriety on School Grounds

The proposal creates up to a $200 fine for individuals under the age of 21 on school premises with a registering blood alcohol content.   While schools can currently punish students for such violations, law enforcement officials cannot arrest minors who consumed alcohol off school premises in the presence of a legal guardian.

Bussing Issues

Cleaning Supplies

This proposal requires certain buildings open to the public, including private schools, to purchase cleaning supplies from a list of products approved by the EPA and DHS.

UPDATE:  The Assembly Natural Resources Committee passed an amended version of the bill on 1/26.  An amendment excluding private schools from the requirement was rejected 7-9.

Education Investment Tax Credit

We support the creation of a corporate and franchise tax credit to encourage businesses to donate funds to non-profit scholarship organizations which offset the cost of tuition expenses for low-income and special needs students.

We support the creation of a state income tax credit for non-reimbursed materials purchased by an educator for the classroom.

Indoor Environmental Quality in Schools

 

The proposal creates an Indoor Environmental Air Quality Task Force, charged with developing a proposal for new air quality standards in WI schools.   WCRIS was granted representation on the task force.

Physical Fitness / School Nutrition

The proposal directs schools operating programs in grades 3-12 to conduct annual physical fitness exams; and sets minimum nutritional guidelines for school lunch programs.

Universal Pre-Kindergarten

Youth Options   

We support the expansion of the current Youth Options program to include students attending religious and independent schools.  Youth Options allows junior and senior-year students to receive dual credits for courses taken at post-secondary institutions.
