Conducting Criminal Background Checks

Overview

Performing background checks promotes a safe environment for your school and should be considered a hiring best practice. This is especially important as your school caters to one of our most vulnerable populations, children. WCRIS encourages schools to perform background checks on new hires, current staff and any volunteers who may be in contact with your students.

Many K-12 accreditation agencies require proof of employee background checks and if your school is enrolled in or intends to enroll in the Special Needs Scholarship Program you are required to administer background checks to all employees and volunteers who will be involved with students.

In an effort to make this process easier and more affordable for our member schools, WCRIS has negotiated a group price with a nationally known provider, Trusted Employees.

The negotiated WCRIS rates with Trusted Employees are far cheaper than what most schools can obtain on their own.

Trusted Employees provides a comprehensive range of background screening and verification services that are scalable, customizable and are integrated with its online applicant tool. Trusted Employees has:

  • Over 20 years of experience;
  • more than 5,000 active clients;
  • an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau;
  • membership in the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS);
  • certification by multiple independent parties focused on data security and privacy.

You can access the WCRIS discounted rates through Trusted Employees by logging in to the WCRIS member’s portal here, and using the url listed under Trusted Employees. You will then need to create an account to obtain the discount. There is no fee to implement and customize the account. You will only pay for the background checks that you order.

Trusted employees also provides a waiver form for your school to give the prospective employee to sign off on the background check, as required by law.
