2018 Professional Learning Conference Preview

Date: August 10, 2018
Place: at the Glacier Canyon Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells
Time:  7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Early-bird (before June 15) group rate: $125/person (a group is 3 or more people).
• Early-bird (before June 15) individual rate: $145/person.
• Regular group rate (3 or more): $145/person.
• Regular individual rate: $165/person.
• Late registration/non-WCRIS member rate: $220/person.
The objectives are:  to provide professional development opportunities that address cutting edge and emerging topics of concern to K-12 classroom teachers and assist teachers in improving their professional knowledge and skills.
Specifically, the sessions and workshops will aim to assist teachers in meeting Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure under PI 34. Those standards call for teachers to: know the subjects they are teaching; know how children grow; understand that children learn differently; know how to teach; know how to manage a classroom; communicate well; know how to plan different kinds of lessons; know how to assess student progress; know how to evaluate their own teaching practice; connect with other teachers in the learning community.
Topics may include, but are not limited to the following: 
Brain development and the impact of social media; Classroom management techniques given changing cultural standards of respect and self-control; Serving special needs students; understanding the autism spectrum and how it affects learning; understanding childhood trauma and how it affects learning; helping more students find STEM accessible; how to manage personalized learning in the real world of your classroom.
NOTE: The event is non-sectarian. There is no religious practice or worship events included.
