Help Your Families Save Money

Did you know Wisconsin is one of only four states that have a state tax deduction for private K-12 school tuition?

Because of WCRIS’ advocacy, private-school-tuition-paying parents and guardians have had the opportunity to reduce their tax liability for almost a decade. Under the deduction, families can deduct up to $4,000 for each child in grades K-8 and up to $10,000 per high school student from their taxable income.

To help our schools spread the word to families, WCRIS has published a K-12 Tuition Tax Deduction Parent Packet.

It includes instructions on how to claim the deduction; answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ); and the current Schedule PS Form, which must be filed with parents’ taxes in order to claim the deduction. Please share the packet on your school’s website, social media channels or in your newsletter.

Parents will need your school’s Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). WCRIS suggests writing (or typing) in your school’s FEIN on the form or proactively providing it to give families a head start.

  2. Economic status should not determine whether a child receives a quality education.
  3. Our educational system must be designed to facilitate the growth of quality educational institutions, both public and private.
